A member of the Bellevue City Council has regrettably submitted his resignation. Scott Houghtaling cited the passing of his boss and close colleague. He said he has been asked to accept a vacant position in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Aerie.
Houghtaling’s resignation is effective March 31, 2013. He has been a member of the council for War I since 2008. He was re-elected to a second term in 2012 and was elected to serve as Council President last year.
Here is his resignation statement:
“It is with great sadness that I must resign as a Bellevue City Councilman. I do this after a great deal of thought and consideration. Unfortunately due to the passing of my boss and close colleague, I have been asked to accept a now vacant position. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve on the City Council and I am proud of the work we did together. I have thoroughly enjoyed my association with the Council and sincerely thank my fellow Council members, city staff and the citizens of Bellevue for the opportunity to serve the last five years. I leave the City of Bellevue better off than it was in 2008 when I gained my seat on the City Council and I have faith that the remaining Council members and city staff will continue to lead our great city. This very difficult decision will provide me an opportunity to further my career in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Aerie as Assistant to the Grand Worthy President. Sadly, this position will take me away from the Bellevue area but Bellevue will always be in my heart and the place that I call home.”
