The chief executive officer of the Beatrice State Developmental Center has resigned after three years on the job. Dan Howell left his job at the end of July. His resignation was effective Wednesday.
The Department of Health and Human Services gave no reason for Howell's resignation, which was not announced publicly. The department says Delvin Koch is interim CEO.
Howell was named to the post in August 2009 as the center struggled to recover in the aftermath of a federal inspection that uncovered about 200 cases of alleged neglect and abuse of the center's developmentally disabled residents from late 2006 to late 2007.
The center reeled again last year after newer cases surfaced. Five workers were fired and then convicted of various charges.
