Busy weekend for Cass County law enforcement.
The Cassgram reports that on Friday, at approximately 10pm deputies were dispatched to a theft at the Nehawka State Bank in Nehawka. Upon arrival deputies found the lobby ATM machine was left unsecured and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen. Video shows a male subject obtaining the cash from the ATM's vault. Fingerprint evidence is being processed. The investigation is ongoing.
The sheriff’s department is asking for the public’s assistance and vigilance as the department looks for the subjects responsible for two recent daytime residential burglaries, one in rural Murray and the other in Cedar Creek.
In both burglaries, firearms and electronics were stolen from residences in the morning hours when no one was home. Sheriff’s officials are asking for your cooperation in calling in any unusual activity, strange vehicles and unknown persons acting suspicious. Care should be taken to assure doors are locked and buildings and vehicles are secured when leaving your property.
Brueggemann announces his office is wrapping up a 15-month theft investigation.
Investigators recovered vehicles stolen in mid 2009, one ATV and three trailers. All items recovered have been identified and returned to the owners or respective insurance companies. The vehicle and trailers had the vehicle identification number plates, and all forms of identification removed. A couple of the vehicles were repainted which hindered investigators in identifying the owners.
Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the cases will be forwarded to the county attorney for filing of charges and the names of the suspects will be released.
