Cedar Rapids police are investigating an attempted home burglary that ended in a shootout between the homeowner and the suspect.
Police say ten shots were fired during the exchange of gunfire early Monday morning but no one was struck. The incident lasted about 20 seconds. The homeowner says he heard a knock at the door just after midnight. He says he became suspicious and grabbed his pistol.
The homeowner and the suspect struggled against the unlocked
door. The homeowner says he fired seven rounds through the door.
The suspect fired three rounds into the house. The would-be intruder, who was wearing a mask, took off running.
Police say he may have suffered a minor injury because investigators found a small amount of blood on the door.
