At Least Nine Tornadoes Hit Nebraska

At least nine tornadoes struck parts of Nebraska during last weekend's storms with the most severe damage being reported in the southeast corner of the state.

The National Weather Service said Monday that it had confirmed nine tornadoes hit Nebraska on Saturday as part of the outbreak across the Great Plains. The total could grow as additional tornado reports are examined.

Overall, about 75 tornadoes touched down in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Oklahoma on Saturday and Sunday. Most struck in Kansas.

In southeast Nebraska, the storms destroyed three homes in Johnson County and damaged fruit orchards in the Nebraska City area.

Another storm destroyed some grain bins in Harlan County in south-central Nebraska.
