Assault Weapon Used In Kwik Shop Robbery

Bellevue police are searching for the man who robbed a Kwik Shop Friday morning using an assault weapon.

The suspect, dressed in black and wearing sunglasses and a bandana covering his face, entered the convenience store near 41st and Harrison around 6:20 a.m. The clerk told officers the man had a camouflage bag. He pulled out an Uzi and demanded cash from the register.

Police say the suspect is about 6-feet tall weighing 190 pounds. Witnesses heard a loud vehicle leave the scene after the robbery. Anyone with information about the robbery or suspect is asked to call police at 402-293-3100.

“Anytime anyone carries around an assault rifle like that for illegal purposes is worrisome,” says David Stukenholtz with the Bellevue Police Department.

This was the third robbery in the southern metro this week, though police don’t believe this one is related to the others in Papillion and Ralston last Tuesday night. “Well the MO is different, this guy acted alone and those guys worked in a group and they also used a different weapon, so with that being said the chance on that being the same guys is fairly slim.”

Down the street from the Kwik Shop at the Tobacco Hut, employees have their eyes open. They are concerned about the recent robberies, but they also have a job to do.

“Obviously it doesn't matter what size gun it is, it’s gonna be scary if it's pointed at you face,” said Jayme Fitzpatrick. “Unfortunately, you can’t spend your whole day thinking about it ‘cause otherwise no work will get done."
