A city inspector put up a notice that the building where 12 apartments were damaged is off-limits. Several other units are also affected by a loss of electricity and water.
The Red Cross reports providing motel rooms for four families while the rest stayed with relatives. The fire marshal said the blaze could have displaced more people, but the fire wall between buildings worked as designed.
The fire consumed the roof of the one building at the complex by Tuesday evening, forcing the evacuation of 24 units.
Crews from La Vista, Ralston, Papillion and Bellevue were called in to fight the fire, which took more than an hour to put out.
