Apartment Fire Blamed On Carelessly Discarded Smoking Material

Fire investigators say the cause of a two alarm fire that ripped through a Southwest Omaha apartment complex back in June is an improperly discarded smoking material.

Omaha firefighters spent hours trying to quell the flames at the Enclave Apartments just of 99th St and Q St on June 16th.

The fire broke out just after 4:00 p.m.

The first priority was to evacuate all the apartments.

"Some one is pounding on my door, I finally get to the door, and they were just like 'fire, get out now!' said Renee Demmler, resident.

Grabbing what she could, Demmler said she got outside quick. She stood with several others watching their apartments burn.

Fire fighters said the high winds spread the fire fast. Fifty fire fighters were called to battle the flames.

Several people lost their homes, no one was reportedly injured.
