Big Lake is about ten miles southwest of Mound City, MO.
The breach occurred about a half mile from the spot where the levee broke last summer. Officials say farmers built an earthen levee known by many in the area as "High Bank Levee" to help with the flooding.
City engineers say at some point there will be structural damage. Right now, the earthen levee has created a second ring around Big Lake that is filling with water.
Big Lake residents are being told to evacuate. Power and water will be shutoff to the area by the end of Monday.
