An Omaha Police officer was forced to call for help Sunday night, after getting in a fight with a suspect. The officer was investigating whether the man had been abusing a cat in the middle of the street.

The incident began not long before 5:30 p.m., near 73rd & Webster.

Police tell WOWT 6 News that when the officer arrived, the suspect acted belligerent and resisted arrest.

When the suspect started attacking him, the officer called for back-up.

Police believe the man may have been on drugs. Paramedics took him to a hospital, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

The officer was not seriously injured.

Police say the man will be arrested for resisting arrest. Responding officers say something happened involving the cat, but it is "fine."
