A man who allegedly twice tried to steal a car before being shot seven times last Sunday in Lincoln has been released from the hospital and is now in police custody.
Police say 30-year-old Samson Wilcinot asked a 16-year-old driver at 13th and High streets for a ride just after 2 a.m. When Wilcinot attempted to get into the driver's seat, the teen took off, stopping at 13th and Otoe to visit a friend. When he later got into his car to leave, Wilcinot allegedly approached and punched him, saying he was taking the vehicle.
The friend then came outside with a gun and fired a warning shot in an attempt to scare off Wilcinot, who walked toward the gunman, who then fired several times.
The county prosecutor will determine if the shooter will be charged.
