Alexandra's Scholarship

Inside Skutt Catholic, music fills the halls as the concert band plays the last concert of the year.

In the crowd sits the family of Alexandra Bedel. Her mother, Beverly tells WOWT 6 News, Alexandra played in the percussion for three years when she attended Skutt.

"It was her family outside of her real family," said Beverly.

Like tonight, during Alexandra's last concert in 2011 they gave out awards to deserving seniors. Alexandra won the high honor of the Band Director's Scholarship.

"It went to pay for, she lived in the dorms. So it went for that, or it went for books, it was just a nice little thing to help out," said Beverly.

But in June of 2014, Alexandra's life was cut short. The 19 year-old died in a car accident.

Losing her only child, the last year has been extremely hard for Beverly.

"My family gets me through, we celebrate, we celebrate her," said Beverly.

Celebrating her is why she's back at Skutt Sunday May 4th. The scholarship that meant so much to Alexandra is now being renamed in her honor.

Beverly said this will keep Alexandra's legacy going for years to come.

"It's just a peaceful remembrance of her," said Beverly.

Sunday evening, the scholarship was awarded to senior Brandon Siracuse.
