Alcohol Suspected In Construction Zone Accident

Authorities suspect an accident with a parked asphalt paving machine Sunday morning in Lincoln involved alcohol.

Police and fire crews were dispatched to the 3600 block of North 1st Street for a crash involving construction equipment just after 2:30 a.m. They found a vehicle had hit a backhoe and asphalt paving machine, both parked inside a construction zone.

According to Lincoln Police Sgt. Randy Clark, witnesses reported two people were in the car when it struck the machines. The road is closed due to ongoing construction.

One person was treated and released at the scene. Authorities are working to confirm who was driving at the time. That person is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.

Estimates on damage to the machines was not available. The car is considered to be a total loss.
