Shelby Lagana loves the Creighton Bluejays
"My stepdad Bobby here took me to a Creighton basketball game and I liked it," Shelby said.
Her favorite player is Gregory Echenique.
"They are good role models," Shelby added.
On Tuesday Shelby got a special treat. The entire Bluejay team spread some holiday cheer visiting patients at Childrens Hospital.
"It definitely made my day. I was not expecting it," Creighton Center Gregory Echenique said. "I thought it was cute that she knew how to say my last name better than a lot of people."
Josh Jones knows what it is like. He had open heart surgery his senior year of high school, right after he committed to Creighton.
"I was in their position at a point in time. It feels good to know that people still care about you when you are at your lowest point," Jones said.
And even in the middle of a three games in six days stretch, the Jays are happy to take some time out of their busy schedules.
"When it comes to things like this it doesn't really matter what we have to do," Jones said. "We want to show that we appreciate the people that appreciate us. Regardless of the time or where it is, we will do what we can to make an appearance."
Before Tuesday Shelby wanted an I-pod for Christmas.
"This is a pretty good Christmas gift," stepfather Bob Begley said. "I think this is something she will remember forever. Who knows about the I-pod Touch. This will be something she never forgets."
