Conviction in theft of ATV. The 23-year-old Weeping Water man entered a guilty plea and the proceedings went to immediate sentencing.
The Cassgram reports Anthony Houchin pled guilty to the Class III Felony theft by receiving charge as part of a plea agreement. With the guilty plea, four other felony counts were dismissed.
An all-terrain-vehicle was stolen in Weeping Water on August 12th or 13th of last year. Cass County sheriff’s authorities found the ATV in the back of Houchin’s pickup on August 16th in Louisville. Deputy Cass County Attorney Steve Sunde said Houchin admitted to taking the ATV with friends.
The case went to immediate sentencing with both the prosecution and defense recommending a sentence of not less than one year and not more than two years in the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
Cass County District Court Judge Randall Rehmeier agreed to the immediate sentencing and noted that he has seen Houchin in the courtroom before and is somewhat familiar with his past criminal record. (Houchin was one of three convicted in the baseball bat beating case of Tony Premo in 2007 and Houchin also served time for his involvement in burglaries a couple years ago.)
Rehmeier said the recommended sentence was appropriate. Houchin was given credit for 74 days already served.
