A special day for some special kids showing off their athletic prowess at Burke High School today.
Nearly 120 kids from 10 area Omaha Schools took part in the first OPS Friendship Games.
There were a lot of events for the kids, including a softball toss and a variety of track and field events.
The participants are from the district's integrated learning program, with the goal of giving all kids the experience of what it's like to be a part of something big.
“They wear their medals at school, they see some of the kiids that they were able to participate with and they were in the gym with them they high five them and kids come and talk to them at lunchtime, so there's just a little bit more openness and visibility for ACP kids,” organizer and King Science Assistant Principal Sherri Wehr said.
This is the first time a track meet has been done. Other events incorporating the kids include a volleyball and basketball tournament.
