The La Vista Police Department is hosting a citizen's academy to shed a little light on what it’s like to be a cop.
Anyone can apply to participate but many of those who turned out Thursday night have a special interest in the criminal justice field.
Dan Monical said, "I'm actually currently working on my Masters Degree at South University, for criminal justice, with an emphasis in cybercrimes. So that actually got me interested in seeing how law enforcement works."
It's a hands-on experience with tours. Participants get to touch and use some of the police equipment.
The goal is to foster better communication between people who live in La Vista and police.
