A Different Kind of Jailbreak
Gage County supervisors have approved repairs for a different kind of jailbreak.
The Beatrice Daily Sun reports that the ground shifted under the county jail on Friday night and caused a quarter-inch crack that ran 5 feet up a brick wall on the building's north side. The crack didn't go all the way through the bricks.
Jail workers reported the sudden break sounded as loud as a sonic boom.
County building and grounds manager Dave Jones told the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday that there are expansion joints inside the building. But he says none could be found on the exterior wall that cracked.
Future repairs could include cutting some relief joints.
