It feels like spring is finally here. Ten days after the start of the season the temperature finally caught up on Saturday. All across the metro people were enjoying a day outdoors.
You can tell people have been waiting for a day like this. The Old Market's sidewalks were crowded and parks were packed. Whether it was baseball practice or washing a car, everywhere you looked people were outside enjoying the seasonal temperatures and the start of the outdoor season.
They're not Final Four material yet, but the kids shooting around on the Churchich Park basketball court were burning off some excess energy and working up an appetite. Several were part of Kassie and Melissa's group getting ready for the first grill out of the year.
"They're excited to go, so they help us get everything ready and it makes it a little bit easier," said Melissa Chase. "You want to go on the slide?"
"Yeah and I want to go up the stairs."
"Okay, we'll go up the stairs."
Over at the Gene Leahy Mall, Jolene Pigman had her hands full, but she knows the time spent outside means a longer night's sleep for the little ones. She said they haven't been outside for a while. "It was really nice yesterday, but other than that, probably two months maybe. With the little ones we're not out too often."
The coals were about ready in Churchich Park, so the kids could take a short break before getting back to their carefree, outdoor fun. "They like to go outside and play in the snow, they really don't care, but I make them come in after a while just because of how cold it is," said Chase.
Every one of the parents Channel 6 News spoke to Saturday said they brought their children outside so they could enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures. They also admitted that it gives them more peace and quiet when they return home.
