A Bad Turn Causes Accident

A driver making illegal turn drives into semi-trailer according to the Cassgram

The accident happened Thursday at 4:29pm in the area of Highway 75 and East Union Drive just south of Union. Union and Nehawka Fire and Rescue volunteers responded along with sheriff’s deputies.

A white 1998 KIA Sephia driven by Martin Daley Jr, age 16, of Omaha was traveling south on Highway 75 when Daley pulled over onto the shoulder and attempted to turn around on Highway 75. Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann says Daley then drove under the rear axle of a semi trailer. The semi, a 1999 Freightliner, was driven by Bradley D. Rausch, age 52, of Humboldt, Nebraska. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and both were treated at the scene by Nehawka Rescue.

Witnesses observed Daley pull to the shoulder and then turn into the semi trailer, says Brueggemann. Daley was issued citations for failure to yield right of way, improper turning, and no proof of insurance. The accident investigation is complete.
