An administrator at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is hoping to reduce the number of the preterm births in Nebraska.
Jack Turman will discuss strategies aimed at helping pregnant women carry their babies to term during UNMC's next Science Cafe, scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Slowdown in downtown Omaha, North 14th Street just south of Cuming.
Turman recently came to UNMC from the University of Southern California where he ran the Center for Premature Infant Health and Development. He hopes a similar center will be opened at UNMC.
Turman's presentation will explore the high infant mortality rate for blacks in Nebraska, brain development in the final weeks of pregnancy and how Nebraska can reduce preterm births by five percent.
