A fleeing suspect abandons a vehicle and eludes officers but not for long.
Bellevue police are called to the scene of a vehicle seen with smoke coming from it and front end damage. Later a resident reported seeing a stranger in her garage. That suspect left before Bellevue police could nab him.
Officers checked nearby businesses and spotted a man in a Bellevue restaurant. The man was drenched in sweat. He told officers it was because the food was hot. But officers noticed the man hadn’t ordered yet. Restaurant workers said the man had been in the restroom. That’s where police found evidence of a previous theft.
Bellevue police arrested 30 year old Matthew Berney. Officer linked him to a stolen pickup believed involved in a pursuit.
