Downtown Improvement Plans


Plattsmouth hopes to bobtain a grant to help with downtown building renovations The committee and planning work has been completed. The process has advanced through the public hearing stage and now formal application will be considered by the Plattsmouth City Council on June 7th.

The Cassgram reportst the application is for a $350,000 Downtown Revitalization Community Development Block Grant. The program is administered through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

The grant would provide funds to renovate historic buildings. $250,000 would be in a loan program for façade renovations and $100,000 would be for façade grants.

The City of Plattsmouth is to provide a 25% match. That funding would come from the Street and Sidewalk Fund and the Economic Development Fund. Of the city match, $52,500 would go toward attracting passersby into town, with the rest going to preservation education and grant administration.

This grant application fits in the plan for downtown restorations that include street and sidewalk improvements expected to start in July. (archives 4/20/10)
