Rescue Squad Controversy Settles Down

New EMS director for Plattsmouth.

The Cassgram reports the list of candidates was first narrowed to seven, then to three and finally one name went before the Plattsmouth City Council for approval this week. Mia Martin of Bellevue will begin her duties May 13th, one week before the contract with American Medical Response ambulance service expires. (archives 11/9/09)

Emergency Medical Services Director is a new position in the City of Plattsmouth. The position reports to the city administrator and makes rescue calls, supervises, and is responsible for billing and collections of the rescue department. The director and a yet-to-be-hired paramedic are expected to cover the weekday hours—the time that’s proven to be the toughest for the Plattsmouth Rescue volunteers to adequately cover.

After the council vote to employ her, Martin said, “It’s a wonderful plan you’ve set forth. It’s my job to make it work.”

In recommending her for the job, Mayor Paul Lambert said Martin is “very well qualified.”
