Passengers despise them but sky-high fees have translated into soaring revenue for airlines.
In news that probably comes as no shock, revenue from fees rose by 42 percent last year, to almost eight billion dollars.
Most of that comes from checked baggage fees.
According to the transportation department, Delta collected the biggest chunk at more than $1.6 billion dollars.
The world's current largest airline is followed by American and U-S Airways.
Other fees include those for reservation changes, pets, and mileage sales.
