Plenty Of Water But Water Needed
The members of Beaver Lake are deciding a water issue this month along with the annual board member elections.
The Cassgram reports the BLA is also asking if property owners want to consider having only one trash hauling service traveling the lake area’s roads. Ballots have been mailed. Voting ends 3pm May 16th.
---The yes/no question issue: “Shall BLA enter into a renewable 20-year contractual agreement with Cass County Rural Water District #1 for installation and access to an alternate source of drinking water in the event that our plant is unable to produce potable water for a period of time?”
Currently, water treated from the lake is the only source for drinking and household water for the community. An alternate source has been talked about for years. The pending agreement with the rural water district was worked out last year.
According to information posted on the BLA`s official website, www.beaverlakene.org, in the event of an emergency the rural water district can supply up to 7.75 million gallons of water monthly to BLA. The website report says BLA would incur an estimated one-time cost of $349,000 for the connection. Ongoing costs for maintaining the emergency hookup are estimated at just under $3,000 a year. With those estimates, association members are looking at a one-time assessment of $218 per lot that could be paid at one time or spread over three years.
