One of the three Omaha men shot Sunday afternoon has died.

Police initially responded to a report of shots being fired at 24th and Kansas around 12:30 p.m. It's not known if that is related to what happened a few blocks away at 24th and Newport, just north of Miller Park, where police checking into another "shots fired" call found the three victims.

While at the hospital, 27-year-old Acie Robinson was pronounced dead. Twenty-four-year-old Dexter Levering is in critical but stable condition. Eighteen-year-old Damian Tiffin was treated for a wound to his hand and released.

The 28 evidence markers left behind, most of which are shell casings, were all that was left of the gunfight the played out.

"Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, it must have been at least six, seven (shots) that I heard and I looked out my back door,” said witness Parker Jones. “I didn't come down to the corner, but I knew it was real close.”

A woman who heard the gunfire was too scared to be identified. “I went downstairs to do laundry and I heard 10 or 12 shots, ping, ping, ping, ping. I said oh crap, it sounds like somebody's shooting.”

Police spent much of the afternoon around a white SUV. Witnesses said the three victims had just left it when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire. They said some or all of the three victims fired back, but it was too late as the other vehicle drove away.

Those who live on the street said it's unusual to have this much violence, but they admitted that lately the violence continues to bleed and now it's seeping onto their street.

“In the last three or four years, it's kind of escalated and this today, when we get this kind of violence it makes people uneasy."
