Dead Suspect's Parents Discuss Fatal Shooting
The mother of the accused robber, gunned down Monday night by a Walgreen's customer, said she forgives the shooter.
Witnesses said Marquail Thomas, 18, walked into the drugstore at 61st and Northwest Radial, with a sawed off shotgun. He and alleged accomplice, 17 year-old Angelo Douglas, were stopped by Harry McCullough III, who was carrying a loaded handgun.
McCullough shot Thomas several times, wounds that proved fatal. Kim Thomas, said she's certain McCullough is not sleeping at night, having taken her son's life.
However, her son's stepfather, Terry Thomas, called the shooting "excessive." And Kim disputed the labeling of McCullough as a "good Samaritan" or "hero."
"A good Samaritan," she said, "would have made sure nobody was hurt." She didn't believe her son would have actually hurt anybody during the alleged robbery.
She added that her son had become "distant" lately and depressed. The happiest she had seen him recently was Friday, the last time she saw him. She's just beginning to find closure and believes her son is now "at peace."
