Sentencing for an Alvo Man who fled deputies.
The Cassgram reports 49-year-old Jerry J. Vasicek had pled guilty to three counts in a plea agreement: flight to avoid arrest, a Class IV Felony, and third degree assault and obstruction of a police officer, both Class I Misdemeanors. There had been no joint recommendation as to sentencing.
Vasicek was sentenced to six months in the Cass County Jail this week and given credit for 53 days already served. Deputy county attorney Rick Fedde said that with good behavior, Vasicek will be eligible for release after serving about 70 more days in jail.
Four Cass County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a physical and verbal domestic disturbance last September at the Vasicek residence in Alvo. Upon arrival, deputies found Vasicek in his pickup and he drove through a neighbor’s yard when they tried to block him in. A pursuit that reached speeds of 95 to 100 mph ensued and went westward into Lancaster County. It ended when the vehicle went out of control and went off the road. Deputies apprehended Vasicek in a cornfield. A small caliber handgun was later recovered.
