As she packs up four years worth of memories on stage dance theater owner Sandi Embry says it’s her toughest move.
Embry said, “It’s devastating because my heart and soul went into this studio.”
About two weeks ago she closed the doors. Speaking for the first time Embry said high rent on the studio, lower than hoped for enrollment and increased insurance costs all contributed to the abrupt closing.
Emby said, “It’s really really tough and I know there are some people who do not understand not being able to make it.”
Embry said she has or will refund any fees for unused dance classes in April by the end of the week. Saturday students can come by to clear out their cubbies or take a souvenir.
At least 10 other dance studios in the Omaha metro have offered to take dance students, many preparing for recitals this time of year. Embry said she herself has placed about 90 children in seven different studios.
The owner of studio “D” Vicky Harvey-Sanders said she has openings for students who can still prepare for her recital.
Sanders said,” The dance community is so family oriented and we pull together.”
As she packs up more pictures and trophies Sandi Embry of On Stage Dance Theater said, “Sorry this had to happen but life goes on and things happen for a reason.”
