Property Taxes Jump

Property taxes levied in Cass County in 2009 totaled $47,769,564. That's an increase of 6.94% when compared to the 2008 total of $44.7 million. Four years ago, in 2005, the amount was $37 million.

The Cassgram reports that when comparing the 2009 annual rate of increase (percentage of increase) with other counties in Nebraska, Cass ranked 51st.

Neighboring counties and their 2009 rate of increase followed by their state ranking (in rate of increase): Otoe 2.80%/83rd; Lancaster -1.52%/92nd; Saunders 5.03%/63rd; Sarpy 4.28%/74th.

The 2008 to 2009 property taxes levied statewide increased 5.63%.

The information is contained in reports from the Nebraska Department of Revenue Property Assessment Division.

The 2009 Average Tax Rate of 2.0036% in Cass was a 0.42% change over 2008.

Cass County's property valuation increased to about $2.38-billion in 2009, a 6.50% increase.
