Dance Studio Owner Makes Sudden Move

100 young dancers and their parents have been surprised by the sudden move of a dance studio owner.

Sandi Embry’s Onstage Dance Theater is locked with no more explanation than a hand written "sorry closed" sign.

A parent of one young dancer Amy Pink said, “It would have been nice to at least been contacted so we could make other arrangements.”

Monday night another parent Kim Meyer brought seven year old Madeline for her dance lesson but found the door locked and nobody in the studio.
Kim said, “If she had at least let us know it would have been easier to tell Madeline instead of showing up and seeing a sign.”

Sandi Embry didn’t return calls to Six On Your Side but she had another parent provide some answers.
That parent said the studio owner Embry will work with any parent who wants a refund. For most that’s about $35 or half of April’s tuition.
Kim Meyer said the studio owner collected for the month without saying anything about closing.

The other parent said Embry had the best of intentions when collecting recent tuition payments but discovered she didn’t have enough money to cover expenses and had to close. She told that parent the studio had few students than expected. Though that parent said the owner could have better handled notifying everyone.

The closing comes just weeks before a big recital the younger dancers had been preparing for.
One child said, “We were in the middle of something and then we just quit.”

The Onstage Dance Theater located near 167th and Harrison in Southwest Omaha had about 100 dance students ranging in age from three years old to high school.
