A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for southeastern Fremont, Montgomery and Page counties in Iowa until 6 p.m. Sunday.
Sex Abuse Trial Starts
A jury trial is underway in Cass County District Court. A seven woman, five man jury was seated Wednesday in the criminal trial of State vs. Cecil Even Jr. of Plattsmouth.
Even is charged with three Class II Felonies and one Class IIIA Felony. The Class II Felonies each carry up to a 50-year prison term and the Class IIIA felony carries up to five years in prison.
Two of the counts allege first degree sexual assault of a child, one is attempted first degree sexual assault of a child and the fourth is sexual assault of a child. All allegations involve the same girl.
Plattsmouth Police arrested the 54-year-old Even last summer after an investigation into allegations of the assaults. Police said the alleged assaults began when the girl was 9 years old and continued over a six year timeframe.
Even posted bond (10% of $250,000) in August.
