OPPD Gives Back

Omaha Public Power District's in-lieu-of tax bill jumped by more than $2.5 million in 2009.

OPPD recently issued checks totaling a record $23.8 million in its 11-county service territory.

The Cassgram rpeorts Cass County received a check for $203,870 last week.

The in-lieu-of-tax payments are based on the amount of retail sales of electricity within incorporated cities and villages in OPPD’s territory. The payments take the place of property taxes and some other taxes. OPPD does pay general sales taxes, gas taxes, wheel taxes, vehicle license fees, and permit fees.
