Nebraska residents have a lot of catching up to do if they want to match their participation rate in the U.S.Census count ten years ago.
As of early this week, Nebraska's overall participation in the current census count was 67 percent. That's 12 percentage points below the final rate in 2000, the last time the once-a-decade count was done.
Some counties such as Box Butte and Red Willow are more than 15 percentage points below the 2000 rate.
Not all counties are lagging compared to 2000.
Burt, Merrick, Butler and Cedar counties already have higher participation rates than in 2000.
