A birthday party at a bowling alley is nothing new, though a Des Moines woman celebrated her 90th there by doing what she loves.
It was her 90th birthday, so were Mary Risolvato's bowling league friends planning something special? "We have a little queen's hat for her and a sash for her to wear. She's a lovely lady."
Mary bowls every week. "It keeps me active." And that makes her thirsty. "You can't bowl without drinking beer."
In front of friends, strangers and a TV camera, she rolled a strike with her 12-pound ball. Risolvato's been knocking ‘em down for 72 years, 54 of those at Val Lanes in West Des Moines.
Bowling is what she does for part of the year. "In the winter time, I fish in the summer time. My average at the end of our last session wasn't as great, it was a 117.”
If she's not impressed, she's the only one who isn't. "To be able to bowl at 90 years old and still carry that average is tremendous. It's amazing, it's really nice."
