A 9-year-old Ashland, Nebraska boy killed Saturday afternoon when a Bobcat loader backed over him on property his parents own south of town was identified Sunday as Grant Johnson.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department tells WOWT 6 News 35-year-old Augusto Figueroa was clearing brush and debris from a grove of trees just before 4 p.m. when Grant walked behind the Bobcat as it was backing up. Figueroa lives at a residence there near 262nd Street and Church Road.
The boy's mother, Kimberly Johnson, was nearby when Grant was struck and tried to administer CPR before rescue crews arrived.
Grant was a third-grader at Ashland Elementary School. Plans are being made to have grief counselors at the school on Monday.
