Gov. Dave Heineman is seeking a federal disaster declaration for 35 Nebraska counties affected by spring flooding.
He says flooding that started March 1 caused extensive damage to state and local infrastructure, mostly to roads and bridges. State estimates put repairs at more than $10.8 million.
A disaster declaration will allow state and local government entities to request federal aid to help pay for repair costs.
The following counties are included in Heineman's request: Antelope, Arthur, Boone, Boyd, Butler, Cass, Colfax, Cuming, Dakota, Gage, Greeley, Hayes, Holt, Howard, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster, Loup, Madison, Nance, Nemaha, Nuckolls, Otoe, Pawnee, Pierce, Platte, Polk, Richardson, Saline, Seward, Stanton, Thurston, Valley, Wheeler and York.
