An escapee from the Douglas County Jail was back behind bars Saturday morning. The Metro Fugitive Task Force caught up with 21-year-old Kentrell Amerson at around 11:15 p.m. Friday.

Kentrell was awaiting sentencing on charges of motor vehicle theft when he was granted a brief furlough Friday to attend the funeral of his brother, 23-year-old Jonas Amerson.

The older Amerson was killed March 7th in a gang-related shooting. Jonas and 24-year-old Qjuan Moore were found dead in a car that crashed near 42nd and Browne streets.

Kentrell left for the funeral, but police soon found his ankle bracelet had been cut off.

The Metro Area Fugitive Task Force caught up with Amerson in a home near 27th and Jaynes streets late Friday night. Amerson was taken into custody without incident.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Friday his office objected to the furlough, but there's just one person to blame for what happened. "The person at fault here is Mr. Amerson. You know the judge gave him an opportunity to attend his brother's funeral and that was the purpose of it and he took advantage of it obviously."

Amerson now faces two additional charges of escape. The sentence is one to 20 years for escape in addition to the one to 20 for the original car theft charge.
