Monday marked the 15th anniversary of the crash of United Airlines flight 232 in Sioux City.

The commercial jetliner was bound from Denver to Chicago when a hydraulic problem seriously compromised the plane's maneuverability.

The crew eventually attempted an emergency landing at the Sioux Gateway Airport and the DC-10 tumbled into a nearby cornfield erupting into a massive fireball.

The crew, control tower staff and emergency personnel were credited with saving the lives of 184 people aboard that flight but 112 passengers died.
