A former Omaha fire chief has bonded out of jail after his arrest on suspicion of assaulting his wife.

Police say 51-year-old Robert Dahlquist was arrested early Sunday morning. Officers had been called to a hospital on Saturday to talk to Dahlquist's wife of more than two decades. Pamela Dahlquist told officers that she had been assaulted by her husband at their home.

Robert Dahlquist served Omaha as fire chief for five years, until his retirement in 2008. He left county jail Sunday afternoon after posting 10 percent of his $50,000 bail.
