An early morning domestic disturbance ends with a man being thrown in jail for terroristic threats and arson.
Police say they were called to the home near 116th & Hartman Avenue a little after 3:30 Wednesday morning. Family told officers the man inside was trying to burn down his home.
"When officers arrived, they found that two of the children were standing outside with the mother, and that three were still inside, with the father inside the home, not wanting to come out," said Officer Jacob Bettin with Omaha Police.
The man has been identified as 39-year-old Albert Terry. When officers arrived, Terry refused to leave the house. Police said he was threatening his five children and their mother.
"I have lived here for over two years, and they've been here the whole time, and this was such a shock, they're a great family," said next door neighbor, Heather.
She said she slept through the entire incident, but hopes the family can get the help they need. "I love the kids, the kids come over all the time and I play with them in the back what-not, and it's just an unfortunate situation. My heart goes out to Anita and her kids."
Police said Terry was threatening to burn the house down, with the family inside. "The father lit clothing inside of the home while the children were inside, they then went outside and the father ordered everyone back inside, two of the kids stayed outside with their mother, the three others went back inside," said Bettin.
That forced rescue crews into action and they went into the house and brought Terry out without any problems.
No one was injured. No fire damage was found inside the home.
Terry was booked for five counts of terroristic threats and domestic violence misdemeanor arson. Other than starting the fire, Terry was unarmed.
The children's ages range from 6 to 19.
