The Aurora Cooperative plans to spend $11 million to expand the capacity of three of its railroad terminals in the state.
The grain co-op says improvements will be made in Grand Island, Aurora and Sedan, Nebraska over the next 18 months. The project will expand grain drying and storage capacity at the terminals.
When the expansion is done, all the terminals will be able to handle multiple species of grain, soybeans and winter wheat.
The co-op's terminals allow farmers to ship their grain over either the Union Pacific or Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads.
Co-op president George Hohwieler says the terminal improvements will make it easier for farmers in east-central Nebraska to sell grain at ports on the West Coast and Gulf of Mexico.
