Inmates in Nebraska's state prisons have stepped up to help victims of the January earthquake in Haiti.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said Wednesday
that nearly 200 inmates had collected a total of $2,015.31 and have sent a check in that amount to the American Red Cross.

The individual donations ranged from ranged from 10 cents to $150.

Most inmates are paid just $1.21 to $3.78 per day. About 15 percent of inmates have jobs that pay more.
