DVDs are showing up in metro mailboxes that were not ordered and consumers are being charged.
Mark Oberg is used to sorting through his family's mail, but a recent item raised a red flag. "I got this package which turned out to be a DVD. I had no idea what it was.”
Mark popped it in his DVD player and the 1976 movie “The Swiss Conspiracy" started playing. Mark didn't order this movie, he's never even heard of it. “Why would somebody send me an old '70s movie in the mail?"
Mark began investigating the company that sent the DVD, Comm Services LLC, and immediately found other consumer complaints saying they got movies they didn't order and they were charged for them.
"I checked my credit card statement and sure enough I was also charged $9.95."
Mark began working with the Better Business Bureau, which sent Comm Services LLC a letter. The company responded with a handwritten note saying the transaction was cancelled and credited, but Mark wasn't satisfied. How did this company get his information?
The Better Business Bureau sent another letter, again getting a handwritten response from the company claiming Mark ordered the movie.
Mark wasn't the only consumer claiming to have never ordered any movies. The BBB lists a dozen other complaints along the same lines and gives Comm Services LLC an "F" rating.
Mark did eventually get his $9.95 back from the company, but only after having to cancel his credit card number. “Still to this day, I have no idea how they got a hold of my personal information."
He says he never filled in his credit card number on any movie Web site and he's left wondering, like other consumers, how this company can charge him.
Six On Your Side contacted Comm Services LLC, which stands behind the claim that Mark ordered the movie. We also asked them about the "F" rating with the BBB. The company said it feels these consumers are just angry they had to pay shipping charges.
