Lincoln County authorities have arrested a 26-year-old Gothenburg, Nebraska man and taken three children into custody after a high-speed chase in a stolen tractor-trailer.

Chief Deputy Dean Sparks says the rig was reported stolen around 10:20 p.m. Monday. By the time it was spotted, the trailer had been dropped off and the tractor was speeding west on U.S. Highway 30 into North Platte.

In North Platte, the driver lost control at one point and knocked down a light pole.

Eventually, the tractor's engine quit and it came to a halt, its tires flattened by stop strips.

Sparks says Joshua Martens was taken into custody, as were the children, ages 14, 12 and 11. The 14-year-old had been driving the tractor.

Court documents don't list the name of Martens' attorney.
