10 cute puppies faced an ugly fate.
Genea stoops of Hooves and Paws rescue said, “These dogs being mixed breeds would have been euthanized.”
The week and a half old puppies and their mother named mittens belonged to a single woman with three children going through foreclosure.
Hooves and Paws rescue of rural Glenwood, Iowa came to the rescue.
After an internet plea, a Wisconsin shelter offered to take the puppies and mother dog into foster care. Genea Stoops said, “It’s a place that takes just puppies and their mamas. They’ll be there for six more weeks.”
An organization called Pilots-N-Paws took them there.
Tom Kort is an airline pilot and when off duty he and wife Marilee fly rescued animals to shelters in the Midwest.
Tom Kort said, “We have an opportunity to help with dogs that have problems and it’s kind of fun. Plus we have a chance to explore the country a little bit.”
The mission of mercy will cost Tom about $250 for fuel in his private plane. But as the plane takes off with Mittens and her pups on board Genea Stoops said, “11 lives saved.”
