A fight turned beating is caught on security camera at an Omaha Housing Authority high rise.
A tenant claims self defense but OHA officials contend video shows the tenant went too far and filed eviction papers against him.
Sean Thomas has been a resident of Omaha’s Jackson Tower for almost five years. Celebrating on New Years Eve, Thomas confronted a trespasser in the tower. Thomas said, “He was acting like he was on some kind of drug. He attacked me.”
As the man who was trespassing headed for the door, a fight ensued and Thomas gained the upper hand. That’s when OHA Security Chief Bob Fidone said the video shows Thomas crossing the line. Fidone said, “It went beyond self defense.”
Thomas is seen choking the man unconscious then smacking him in the head. Thomas is seen shaking the man’s head then grabbing him by the collar, dragging him out the door of the high rise.
OHA filed eviction papers on Thomas under a Federal 1st Strike and you are out policy. OHA Director Stan Tim said, “It concerns us that we’d be held liable if this individual would perform this type of activity again.
Thomas said he’s never had a serious violation of OHA policy before and deserves another chance. Thomas said, “It looks like I beat him up. I didn’t mean to do him like that I swear. But hell, I was defending myself.”
The tape shows the trespasser swinging at Thomas who said he was hit in the face.
Thomas told Six On Your Side he will fight the eviction order in court next week.
The trespasser didn’t file a police report so OHA officials don’t know his identity.
