Cass County reports numerous crashes yesterday due to whiteout conditions.
The Cassgram rpeorts late morning/early afternoon accidents included.
-A multi-vehicle pileup west of Eagle (the sheriff’s report indicates no one was transported to the hospital)
-A series of multi-car accidents on I-80 in Cass County (a female UNL student from Omaha was killed and there were other injuries)
-A car/state snowplow accident on Highway 1 west of Murray (39-year-old female driver suffered a leg injury but was alert)
-A multi-car/multi-semi pileup on Highway 6 near the Ashland Country Club (I-80 was closed at the time)
Then, law enforcement and fire and rescue volunteers were stretched thin between 4:45pm and 7pm as at least 10 accidents were reported, five of them on Highway 75:
-One involved three cars south of the Union corner (a male driver was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City and a female passenger was taken to University of Nebraska Medical Center).
-Another happened near the Kenosha Road intersection (a male driver was taken to Midlands Hospital with a cut to the head).
Other accidents occurred on Murray Road, on Highway 50 and on Webster Boulevard. Rescue personnel checked out several people that were treated and released at the scenes.
Plus there were dozens of vehicles reported off roadways with no injuries throughout the day on Sunday.
Law enforcement officers were called to four non-injury accidents on Monday morning. There was another fatal accident on I-80 Monday morning when a man from Lincoln was killed when his pickup overturned.
