Council Bluffs requested help from nearby Lewis Township Monday night for ambulances at an accident scene where six people were injured.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash around 7 p.m. at South Expressway and Veterans Memorial Highway in Council Bluffs.

Council Bluffs Police say the driver of one vehicle, 55-year-old Susan Smolinski of Council Bluffs, was heading westbound, and waiting for the light to turn green at the intersection. When the light turned, she proceeded into the intersection was hit by the second car. That vehicle was driven by 19-year-old Caleb Williams, also of Council Bluffs.

Police say Williams was heading southbound when he blew through the red light.

Each vehicle had three people inside. Smolinski was taken to Mercy Hospital with minor injuries. Her two small passengers, ages 7 and 9 were taken to Creighton Medical Center.

Williams was also taken to Creighton Medical Center, but his two passengers, each 17 went to Mercy.

Police say all injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

There are still no citations that have been issued at this time.

A witness to the accident, Angela Taylor, told Channel 6 News "I saw the glass shatter go up in the air and both cars spin out of control one land here, one land there, smoke is coming out of the vehicles I immediately, I mean everyone thought I was crazy because I was like oh my God, oh my God, I said somebody call 9-1-1 right now I said, this is not good."
